I was born and raised in Colombia. I received my mining and metallurgy engineering degree and my master’s degree from the School of Mines in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL). I have spent my career at UNAL developing projects for Colombian national and regional Agencies, NGOs and companies. I was an instructor in the School of Mines at UNAL in subjects such as mining economics, mine closure, and mining and sustainable development. I did the academic coordination of three versions of the Colombian Mining Congress (2013, 2014 and 2016) and participated in the Civil Society Table of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative – EITI in Colombia between 2013 and 2018. In January 2019, I joined the Mining Geology research group to work in my PhD in risks and Artisanal and Small Scale Mining in the PIRE project founded by NSF as part of a PIRE project: Sustainable Communities; Gold Supply Chains: Integrating Responsible Engineering and Local Knowledge. I enjoy my time reading, having fun with my family and friends and eating good food.
